TTDI KL Metropolis signs agreement with government of Malaysia to develop Matrade centre. The MYR 628 million Matrade centre is to be developed by TTDI KL Metropolis, a unit of the Naza Group, under a privatisation agreement signed with the government of Malaysia and its agency Syarikat Tanah dan Harta Sdn Bhd. Matrade is the national export promotion agency under the trade ministry. Construction of the centre which is to be built on a 13.1 acre piece of land along Jalan Duta and a stone's throw from the popular Mont Kiara suburb is expected to begin in the second quarter of next year and to be completed in 2014. The project could raise eyebrows as to the need for another exhibition and convention centre in the Klang Valley, which already has at least three well-known ones, plus another under-utilised 1.3 million sq ft centre in Putrajaya. Green building initiatives would also be employed in the building which would be designed with a clear ceiling height of nine to 12 metres, a floor loading maximum of 5 tonnes/sq metre and an auditorium that can hold 1,230 people. Besides the Matrade centre, the government is also reportedly planning to put up a hotel and office building in the adjoining area, with the entire development estimated to amount to MYR 1.5 billion in total.
